Welcome to the website of the Plastic Free Bookham project

Latest news: We were very pleased to take part in Village Day this year after a few years' absence and delighted to be awarded the cup for the best dressed indoor stall.

We aim to reduce single-use plastic in Bookham and gain the Plastic Free Community accreditation awarded by Surfers Against Sewage.

The project began in late 2019: the next two years were challenging times in which to progress a plastics-reduction project but we've been making steady progress against the objectives set for us.

We've now achieved four out of five objectives and as at June 2025 the project overall is over 85% complete.

To meet our remaining objective we need four more local businesses to achieve the Business Champion award from Surfers Against Sewage. This recognises that a business has reduced or avoided three different items of single-use plastic
